Scientists have come a long way in their knowledge of AD. Findings from research during the past 25 years have begun to clarify differences between normal age-related memory changes and AD. Scientists have made great progress in understanding the changes that take place in the AD brain, which allows them to pinpoint possible targets for treatment. As a result, a number of new drugs are now in development that may slow the progression of the disease, or even prevent it.
