Tribute Gifts

A tribute or memorial donation is a meaningful and hopeful way to honor the memory of a loved one or recognize a special life occasion. When you choose to make a Tribute gift, you may contribute any amount. All donors are recognized in the ADDF Annual Report and receive newsletters. The fastest and easiest way to make your donation is to give online. Clicking the button below will take you to the online donation form for tribute/memorial donations.

We are grateful that you wish to donate to ADDF in honor or in memory of a loved one.

If you prefer to mail your contribution, please be sure to indicate the name of the person you are honoring or memorializing, as well as the name and address of anyone who should receive an acknowledgment of this generous donation. Please send your contribution and note to the following address:

Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation

Matching Gifts

Corporate Matching Gifts programs are an easy way for people to double or perhaps triple the impact of their personal contributions. Many corporations worldwide offer an employee Matching Gift program through which you can designate the ADDF as your charitable recipient.

To make a matching gift, check with your company’s human resources department to find out about its matching-gift policy. Many employers will provide a form for you to fill out and send to us with your donation. We will verify your gift and return the form to your company, which will then issue a matching gift contribution directly to the ADDF.

Employee donors receive separate recognition and are included in newsletter distribution. Corporate donors are recognized in the ADDF annual report and receive newsletters.

Please send all gifts and forms to:
Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation
57 West 57th Street, Suite 904
New York, NY 10019

Our Development Office staff is available to assist in completing any necessary paperwork related to a company’s matching gift program. To discuss your company’s participation in the Matching Gift program please contact Allison Sawczyn, Assistant Director of Development, at 212-901-8016 or asawczyn@alzdiscovery.org.

Grants from Donor-Advised Funds

A donor-advised fund is a charitable giving vehicle administered by a third party and created for the purpose of managing charitable donations on behalf of an organization, family, or individual. The Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation is recognized as a 501(c)(3) public charity and, therefore, is eligible for contributions through a gift from donor-advised funds — such as the New York Community Trust, the Jewish Communal Fund, The Renaissance Charitable Gift Fund or the Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund. All gifts received through donor-advised funds are acknowledged both to the grant-making fund and to the donor who recommended the donation.

To discuss donating a grant from a donor-advised fund, please contact Allison Sawczyn, Assistant Director of Development, at 212-901-8016 or asawczyn@alzdiscovery.org.

Grants from Foundations

Because the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation is recognized as a 501(c)(3) public charity, contributions to the ADDF also may be made through foundations. All gifts are acknowledged both to the foundation and to the individual donor(s).

To discuss donating a grant from a donor-advised fund, please contact Allison Sawczyn, Assistant Director of Development, at 212-901-8016 or asawczyn@alzdiscovery.org.

Planned and Legacy Gifts

Planned gifts allow you to combine your charitable giving goals with your estate and financial planning goals. Your gift will provide a legacy of lasting benefits through our progressive Alzheimer drug discovery research. We advise legacy donors to consult their tax attorneys and/or tax advisors to develop the most advantageous planned gift and receive significant tax benefits. Contributors are invited to participate on honorary committees to advance drug discovery awareness, meet annually with our scientists, and receive progress reports. Legacy donors also are selected to be featured in the ADDF Annual report and newsletter.

Individuals can make a lasting contribution to the ADDF through a variety of planned gifts such as appreciated stocks and securities, or naming the ADDF as a beneficiary in a will or trust, a life insurance policy, 401 (k) plan, IRA, bequest, or charitable remainder trust.

To discuss a planned or legacy gift, please contact Allison Sawczyn, Assistant Director of Development, at 212-901-8016 or asawczyn@alzdiscovery.org.

Wills and Trusts

Make a gift for the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation’s future that doesn’t affect your cash flow or portfolio now. Consider leaving a legacy of support by including the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation in your will or trust.

Here is sample bequest language you can take to your attorney: “I give to the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation, whose office address is 57 West 57th Street, Suite 904, New York, New York, _______ (insert either dollar amount or a percentage) in support of its full mission.”

To discuss donating by will or trust, please contact Allison Sawczyn, Assistant Director of Development, at 212-901-8016 or asawczyn@alzdiscovery.org.

Life Insurance

You may wish to make the ADDF the beneficiary of a policy. You can transfer ownership of a paid-up life insurance policy to the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation. You will receive gift credit and an immediate income tax deduction for the cash surrender value of the policy (technically, the “interpolated terminal reserve value” of the policy). In some cases, you can use the cash value in your policy to fund a life-income gift, such as a deferred gift annuity. You can have the satisfaction of making a significant gift now to the ADDF without adversely affecting your cash flow.

With gifts involving such assets, there are many variables to consider. To discuss donating life insurance, please contact Allison Sawczyn, Assistant Director of Development, at 212-901-8016 or asawczyn@alzdiscovery.org.

Retirement Assets

Qualified retirement plans permit individuals to accumulate savings tax-free for retirement. These include assets (qualified plans include an IRA, Keogh, 401(K), 403(B), or defined benefit plan) that remain after your lifetime. Often, a retirement plan is a pre-tax asset and, when transferred to a beneficiary, is subject to estate tax as well as income tax. Retirement account assets, if left to anyone other than a spouse, may be subject to very high taxation. However, by designating the ADDF as recipient of any benefits remaining in your retirement plan, you may effectively reduce the taxes on those assets. Naming The Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation as the beneficiary of your qualified retirement plan may be advantageous and financially judicious. Most often, all that is required is to name the Foundation on the beneficiary line when you sign up for your retirement plan, or to modify your current selection by notifying your plan administrator.

To discuss donating retirement assets, please contact Allison Sawczyn, Assistant Director of Development, at 212-901-8016 or asawczyn@alzdiscovery.org.

Charitable Remainder Trust

This vehicle is established by irrevocably transferring income-producing assets to the ADDF to be managed and invested. You or your beneficiary will receive income payments for life or a period of up to 20 years, at the conclusion of which the trust’s remaining assets will transfer to the Foundation for its general use or use as specified by the terms of the trust instrument.

Depending on how the trust is invested, the payments to you or your beneficiary may consist of ordinary income, capital gains income, tax-free income, or return of principal. Regardless, you are entitled to an immediate charitable income-tax deduction of the projected value of the “remainder interest” at the time the trust terminates. If appreciated property is used to fund the trust, you can reduce or eliminate capital gains tax on the appreciation. This vehicle allows you to have the satisfaction of making a substantial gift that benefits you now and the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation later.

To discuss a charitable remainder trust, please contact Allison Sawczyn, Assistant Director of Development, at 212-901-8016 or asawczyn@alzdiscovery.org.

Endow an Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Fund

Individuals and foundations can establish a perpetual endowed fund for drug discovery with a minimum contribution of $1 million. The initial seed money is used to generate interest on the principle income, and that interest is used to support multiple grant programs in perpetuity.

Endowments can be named in recognition of an individual, family, or organization. Endowment donors are invited to participate on honorary committees to advance drug discovery awareness, meet annually with our scientists, and receive progress reports. Endowment donors are also selected to be featured in the ADDF Annual Report and newsletter.

To discuss arranging a perpetual endowment fund, please contact Howard Fillit, MD, Executive Director, at 212-901-8000 or hfillit@alzdiscovery.org
