Brain-Expressed ABC Transporters As Targets for AD Therapeutics
Investigator(s): Peter B. Reiner, V.M.D., Ph.D., President & CEO
Institution(s): Active Pass Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Vancouver, B.C., Canada
Duration: 2000 - 2001
Summary:
These studies focus on efforts to identify transporters of ß-amyloid as potential targets for treatment of AD. These transporters remove ß-amyloid from the cell following production. Active Pass proposes to clone and sequence a number of ß-amyloid ABC transporters in the human brain. Once identified, the transporters will be studied to confirm their ability to transport ß-amyloid. The ultimate aim is to develop compounds that can block their activity and help reduce ß-amyloid deposition in the brain.
