Summary:
Accumulation of iron at sites where neurons
degenerate in and Alzheimer's (AD) diseases is thought to play a role in
neurodegeneration. Non- toxic lipophilic brain- permeable iron chelators,
such as VK-28 and the multi-functional drug M-30, offer potential therapeutic
benefits for AD. We will investigate these compounds in cellular and animal
models of AD with regards to their neuroprotective, cognitive enhancing,
chelation and amyloid processing activities.
