Public Policy and the Coming Epidemic of Neurodegenerative Disease

Public Policy and the Coming Epidemic of Neurodegenerative Disease

Dr. Lauren Friedman, our Assistant Director, Scientific Affairs, joins this panel moderated by MacKay Jimeson, Corporate Affairs, Pfizer Internal Medicine. The panel will discuss the policy landscape for neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, and the ways it must evolve as science advances. Neurodegenerative diseases are incurable and debilitating conditions that result in progressive degeneration and/or death of nerve cells. Globally, some countries have enacted policies and programs to support education, screening programs and improved care for patients with neurodegenerative disorders. This session will explore the evolving neurodegenerative disease policy environment, including legislative initiatives and local country examples of policies that have been enacted to support the needs of people with these disorders. Panelists will highlight the evolution of various neurodegenerative disease policy efforts in areas such as research, regulatory, awareness and recognition, diagnosis, coordination of care, treatment availability and ongoing management.
