TABLOOD: a biomarker panel for direct assessment in blood of Alzheimer’s Disease pathophysiological hallmarks.
We aim to develop a penal of tests using plasma obtained from blood to identify key aspects of brain changes in Alzheimer's Disease. These changes include amyloid deposition, tau pathology, and neurodegeneration. Neurodegeneration is complex, so we will explore a number of promising biomarkers including specific forms of tau, neurofilament light, and a biomarker that reflects synaptic damage. We believe that a combination of biomarkers will help to diagnose, stage and track Alzheimer brain changes by using highly sensitive tests to measure them in the blood. This will have benefits for the early diagnosis of Alzheimer's and to distinguish it from similar disorders.
