ER stress-mediated regulation of APP proteolysis and signaling

Overproduction of APP is one mechanism known to play a role in the development of Alzheimer's disease (AD). An understanding of how APP processing is regulated may lead to new strategies for pharmacological intervention. In this project the investigator proposes to examine the effect of small molecule chaperones that may facilitate APP processing. The investigator will use genetic animal models of AD in order to test two chemical chaperones known to stabilize protein folding. The ultimate goal is to determine whether these chemical chaperones can prevent the progression of disease by facilitating APP processing and thereby reduce the accumulation of APP.
